Summary:
This position is responsible for providing support to the engineering, architectural, construction community and other citizens through the enforcement, interpretation, and application of building, electric, plumbing, zoning, special use permit and other City ordinances.
General Duties:
Conduct plumbing, electrical, building and mechanical code inspections of residential sites to ensure compliance with all building construction and fire codes, Provide assistance and recommendations to architects, engineers and contractors concerning alternate methods of construction to meet the intent of each related code, Provide information to the public about code violations while keeping a good relationship.
Continue education of codes and city ordinances, Perform basic plan reviews of residential and commercial projects to verify compliance to state and local laws, Maintain a productive working environment which includes, but is not limited to, a spirit of cooperation with co-workers, peers and the public, Other duties as assigned by the Building Official.
Required Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of building, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, fire and state codes Knowledge of laws, regulations and ordinances governing the City Skilled in handling multiple projects with interruptions Skilled in prioritizing and organizing workload to meet deadlines Ability to become familiar with industry specific terminology and symbology Ability to use graphic instructions such as blueprints, layouts or other visual aids Ability to perform mathematical calculations using algebra, geometry and trigonometry Ability to deal effectively with customersPhysical Demands:

Minimum
Qualifications:
Must be 18
years of age Graduation from High School or GEDMinimum Certifications and/or Licensures Required:
Valid State of Utah Driver's License Class D & must be able to maintain an acceptable driving record during tenure of employment.
Preferred Certifications and/or Licensures:
Certified in all four Residential International Code Council Certifications (building, electrical, plumbing & mechanical) Ability to obtain and keep an active DOPL (Division of Professional Licensing) through State of Utah Department of CommerceApplication Instructions:
